چکیده

duodenojejunal flexure and the final one about 4 cm from the caecum. The nylon string was cut and retrieved through the perforations. The patient was put in the Lloyd-Davis position and the lower part of the tube removed from the rectum: one operator pulled from below while another pushed the faecal matter containing the string gently down from within the abdomen. The entire distal end of the tube and the whole length of nylon were retrieved from the bowel per rectum (figure). The patient recovered well but six weeks postoperatively developed acute left ventricular failure and died after a cardiac arrest.

Acromegaly and transsphenoidal hypophysectomy: a case report.

Anterior pituitary tumors account for nearly 18% of all intracranial tumors. Pituitary adenomas that cause hypersecretion of growth hormone lead to acromegaly in adults. Patients with acromegaly may present unique problems for the anesthetist because of the overgrowth of airway soft tissues; a difficult mask ventilation and challenging intubation can be expected. A careful preoperative assessme...

Studies on the Effects of Human Growth Hormone

The role of pituitary growth hormone during fetal and neonatal life remains uncertain even though it has been demonstrated repeatedly that hypophysectomy of the juvenile animal severely retards or arrests growth. The claim has been made that administration of growth hormone to normal pregnant rats stimulates growth of the fetus (2-5), but the evidence presented is inconclusive. In man, the macr...

Pasireotide in an insulin-requiring diabetic acromegalic patient without worsening of hyperglycemia

Long-acting pasireotide is an effective treatment option for acromegaly, but it is associated with hyperglycemia, which could impact its use in patients with diabetes. We present a case of a 53-year-old man with acromegaly and type 2 diabetes mellitus (glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c): 7.5%), who refused surgery to remove a pituitary macroadenoma and enrolled in a Phase 3 clinical trial comparing lo...

Diabetes mellitus in a cohort of patients with acromegaly.

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the presence of diabetes mellitus (DM) in a cohort of patients with acromegaly. METHODS This was a cross sectional study. RESULTS Fifty-eight acromegalic patients were assessed. Only 29% met the criteria for cure, and 27% had the disease controlled. Twenty-two had DM; HbA1c was equal to 7.34 ± 2.2%. Most of the diabetic patients (18 out of 22, 82%) did not meet criter...
